Nonprofit/NGO Leadership Program

APPLY NOWPenn’s School of Social Policy & Practice offers a masters degree in the Leadership of Nonprofits and NGOs (Non-governmental Organizations) which can be completed either full-time or part-time.  This graduate program welcomes individuals who are bright, passionate and energized by the possibility of taking bold actions for social change.

The program’s goal is to educate the next generation of leaders who will help transform nonprofits, social enterprises, international NGOs, educational systems, businesses, civic associations, government, social service agencies, art and cultural institutions, foundations, advocacy and volunteer organizations.

Students enrolled in the Nonprofit/NGO Leadership Program take a total of ten (10) graduate courses: five required core courses, two of three core options and three electives.  Participants are assigned an academic advisor who will guide them in their choice of electives from a large array of options offered by Penn’s diverse graduate and professional programs.   Each student is encouraged to build the competencies they will need throughout their careers.

Who is the target audience for this program?

  • Individuals ready to discover their leadership capabilities;
  • Individuals preparing to enter a career in the nonprofit or NGO sector;
  • Professionals in the areas of business, law, social work, education, health care, and others seeking to make a mid-career shift into nonprofit or NGO leadership;
  • International applicants looking to enhance their leadership skills and learn about cross sector collaboration;
  • Established nonprofit or NGO employees being groomed for future leadership responsibilities; and
  • Young professionals with at least two (2) years of work experience and a passion for human and system transformation and learning about the importance of cross- sector collaboration.

The School of Social Policy & Practice is proud to offer a part-time option starting in the fall semester of 2009 for those interested in pursuing a Masters Degree in Leadership of Nonprofits and NGOs.
